Welcome to the Bensham Grove website. It’s constantly being updated so keep checking back for news and events.

Bensham Grove has provided the community with adult educational opportunities since the 1920s. The Centre is an English Heritage Grade 2 listed building which has recently been restored and is of great historical interest. The Centre was handed over to Gateshead Council by the Spence Watson family in 1948 as a centre for Adult Education.

We offer over fifty accredited and non-accredited courses, parent & toddler group, groups for women, older people, families and young people, all taking advantage of the warm, friendly welcome.

There are advice and information sessions, a family learning group, Asian women’s group, groups for young men and women – a real centre of multi cultural activity.

We encourage and welcome local community participation and partnership with local agencies. A crèche is provided for some of our courses, provided by the Crèche Mobile Project. Bensham Grove is fully accessible to disabled students. Please ask for details.

We are an active equal opportunities centre and no user will be treated less favourably on the grounds of nationality, race, age, marital status, disability, culture, sexual orientation or religion. New members are always welcome.
