Sudanese Showcase

Join us for a vibrant afternoon celebrating the music, food, and cultural traditions of Sudan. Our Sudanese Showcase brings together families, neighbours, and friends for a joyful Refugee Week gathering filled with warmth, creativity, and community spirit.

The event begins in our beautiful garden with a Sudanese BBQ, sharing the rich flavours and hospitality that sit at the heart of Sudanese culture. As the afternoon unfolds, we move into the community hall for live music, dance, and performances led by members of our local Sudanese community

Bensham Grove Scone 

Join us on the first Thursday of every month, 12–2pm, for a simple, comforting treat in the heart of our Grade II listed home. Enjoy a handcrafted cheese scone, made with ingredients grown and harvested right here in our gardens, served with a pot of classic English tea.

It’s a gentle lunchtime gathering — a chance to pause, chat, and enjoy good food in good company. Whether you’re popping in on your break or meeting friends for a cosy catch‑up, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

Makers Market

Our Makers Market is a joyful celebration of local creativity, bringing together artists, crafters, and independent makers from across Gateshead and the North East. Set within our beautiful Grade II listed centre, the market offers a relaxed, welcoming space to browse handmade ceramics, textiles, jewellery, prints, homewares, gifts, and one‑of‑a‑kind pieces.

Visitors can meet the makers, discover new talent, and enjoy the warm community atmosphere that makes Bensham Grove special. Whether you’re searching for a unique gift or simply enjoying a creative afternoon out, everyone is warmly welcomed.

Tony Murray Art Exhibition 

Join us for a special exhibition celebrating the life and work of Tony Murray, a much‑loved North East artist whose creativity, generosity, and distinctive eye for detail left a lasting mark on our region.

Tony’s work spans intricate pen‑and‑ink illustrations, expressive paintings, and a lifelong fascination with the birds and wildlife of the British Isles. His pieces reveal both technical mastery and a deep emotional connection to the natural world. Alongside his artistic practice, Tony was a dedicated teacher, lecturer, and mentor who inspired countless people

Pop up Lounge 

Our monthly Pop‑Up Lounge offers a warm, low‑cost lunchtime space for anyone looking for company, conversation, and a friendly atmosphere. Each month features a simple shared meal — from pie and peas to quiche and quiz — served in our beautiful grade 11 listed building. This is sponsored by Karbon Homes

The Pop‑Up Lounge is especially valued by older residents, people on low incomes, and those rebuilding confidence after periods of isolation. It’s a gentle, sociable space where new friendships form and everyone is welcomed with kindness.
